One thing I’m certain about. If you are an investor in stocks, you’re in for a rocky couple of years.
How can I be so sure? Take a look at the following chart of the S & P Volatility Index for the last 20 years.
The Volatility Index (VIX) is known on Wall Street as the “FEAR GAUGE” because it measures fear in the market. Low levels below 20 suggest little fear and calmer markets. But when levels rise above 20, traders get nervous which leads to markets that gyrate wildly (we just entered this phase).
The recent sell off in the market coincided exactly with the spike in the VIX. The current period of high volatility will last at least several more years and destroy your wealth if your investment capital is in the stock market.
Unless you are comfortable losing 50% of your capital in a bear market I would not put your money in stocks. The stock market is like a casino and it is not a place for your savings.
Savvy investors look for low risk, high reward opportunities to grow their wealth.
