Kudos once again to West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw who recently issued yet another a lawsuit against seven new debt collection agencies.
In recent months, Mr McGraw’s office had received many complaints from consumers about debt collectors posing as law enforcement officials or officers of the court and threatening debtors with criminal prosecution for failure to pay their debts.
In his press release Mr. McGraw went on to say:
“In recent years, my office has been flooded with complaints against companies making unlawful threats of arrest of legal action to coerce consumers to pay nonexistent debts. I have directed my staff to aggressively pursue all such violators and to do whatever it takes to force compliance with laws governing the conduct of collection agencies.”
The “Wild Wild West” days are coming to end in the debt collection industry. As new regulations make it increasingly difficult for the “OLD GUARD” to operated effectively, money will begin to flow to collection agencies who treat people with the dignity and respect they deserve… AKA “THE NEW GUARD.”
