This story was just to good to pass up.
Last week, Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hoods put out a news release about a couple from Farmer’s Branch Texas who teamed up to form a company by the name of “A Different Debt Company.”
Different they were indeed.
According to the press release, the company would approach current debtors claiming to act as an advocate for dealing with their creditors. But in reality, they were just a bunch of swindlers. Monica Clune has pleaded guilty to five counts of wire fraud for allegedly stealing $13,000 from a Mississippi couple. John Clune, her husband, has pleaded guilty to the same charges and is currently on probation.
It sickens me to think about all the criminal activity and fraud that runs ramped in the debt collection industry. I can’t imagine trying to take advantage of someone who is already down of their luck.
I formed Ropay Asset Investors to help put an end to this type of behavior. The more debt we can purchase and get into the hands of honest, ethical collection agencies, the less there will be for unscrupulous operators who are only out to make a quick buck.
Join us in our mission to clean up the collection industry.
