Debt collection ranks second on the FTC’s list of top consumer complaints list for 2010. This is not shocking as a typical collection activity is to pound on a debtor repeated until they cave in and offer up some money just to get the collection agency to leave them alone.
What is shocking is that in an industry that feels morals simply don’t apply to them, one collection agency continues to receive testimonials in lieu of complaints received by its rivals. Here is this weeks example: (Don’t focus on the grammar….focus on the message of treating people with dignity in their time of need)
“Hi Mr. Bill Bartmann. My name is Xxxxxx Xxxxxx and today is March 2, I think. I can’t keep up with it. And I’m calling regarding Connie Quinn, she’s been helping me. We have a son who’s very, very ill. He has seven mental illnesses; he tried to murder me 13 years ago. He stabbed me 21 times. And he has been hospitalized quite a long time. He’s been out for a little while and trying to live on his own. He went into some mania couple years back ago and charged some amounts on some different credit cards. He’s relapsed and was in the psychiatric unit of the hospital this summer. I’ve got 4 jobs. My husbands got one to try to take care of his, like car payment and utilities. **** having a struggle and having a hard time paying his credit card bills, they’ve gone into collection. That’s why Connie, I’ve been dealing with Connie. I have just recently become my sons power of attorney and I’ve written letters and sent doctor reports. Letters about my sons illness and I’m trying to see if his debt could be forgiven. And I just need to let you know; it’s very emotional in my heart about what a blessing Connie Quinn has been, I wanted to let you know. I just can’t say enough about her. She is somebody that’s helped to give me some peach and comfort. She is of the most polite, kindest debt collectors I’ve heard, working with all these things I’m doing for my son. I just can’t say enough and I just wanted to know. And I know I didn’t have to call but the best thing is I wanted to let you know.”
